                     GATEWAY BAPTIST CHURCH, ADO-EKITI
BIBLE STUDY SERIES
TOPIC: LESSONS FROM THE WOMEN OF FAITH
TEXT: PROVERB 30:10-31
INTRODUCTION: The contributions of the women of faith in the Bible to the welfare of others are enormous. Some women in the Bible played some outstanding roles in building the kingdom of God and their homes. These women were more available to serve God, His ministers and others. As we study the word of God together, we shall look in depth, some women of God who lived exemplary lives.
1.       Eunice and Grandmother Lois (IITim.3:15). These two women of God taught their son and grandson- Timothy the scriptures from childhood. They taught him how to do the will of God.
2.       Jochebed (Ex.2). Jochebed received her son Moses back from the river, taught him about God to the extent that the Egyptian training given to him at the palace could not remove from him godliness that had been instilled in him by his mother. Moses grew to esteem God more than the pleasures, the wealth and the politics of Egypt (Heb.11:24-26).
3.       Hannah (1sam. 1): Hannah nursed her son Samuel, made clothes for him and presented him to the Lord in the Temple as she had vowed. Hannah also prayed for Samuel’s fruitful service.
4.       Sarah- She respected her husband’s authority. She even called him ‘lord’
5.       King Lemuel’s mother (Prov. 31): This woman warned her son not to embrace                                                    wayward woman (31:3). She also advised him to be just and fair in all his doings (31:8-9)
6.       Noble wife- (prov. 31:10ff). She was a virtuous, skilful and productive keeper of home. She was her husband’s trusted companion.
7.       Priscilla (Acts 18:2-3). Priscilla, the wife of Aquila co-laboured with Paul in tent making, in the gospel and discipling. It is evident in the scriptures that She and her husband also used their home for the kingdom of God (Acts 18:24-26; 1cor. 16:19; Rom. 16:3-4). In so doing they both risked their lives to serve Christ (Rom. 16:3-4).
8.       Martha (Lk. 10:38; Jn.12:2): Martha showed hospitality to the Lord and others in her home.
9.       Peter’s mother-in-law (Mk 1:31): This woman was hospitable to the Lord and His disciples.
10.   Joanna and Susanna provided for the Lord out of their substances, probably meals and clothing (Lk.8:3).
11.   Dorcas (Acts 9:36, 39): She was full of good works and charitable deeds; she made garments for widows.
12.   Phoebe (Rom. 16:1-2). Phoebe was a servant in the church, a helper of many including Paul.
13.   Mary (Jn. 12:1-7). Mary worshipped the Lord by anointing His feet with precious ointment.
14.   Older women (Titus 2:4): Older women taught younger women how to better love their husbands and children. Women’s contributions to the ministry include: serving at meetings (Heb.10: 25), submission through the head covering (1 cor.11:10), financial support and prayer, etc.
15.   Shunemite woman (2kings 4:8-37). This woman was a discoverer and initiator of good things for the man of God.
CONCLUSION: If you could learn from these women of faith, I am sure your life will be transformed. May Christ increase in us so that

flesh can decrease (John3:30).

WALKING AND GROWING IN THE LORD

TOPIC: WALKING AND GROWING IN THE LORD
TEXT:  Rom. 8:1-14

(A). OVERTURE: You made the most important decision of your life, the moment you chose to receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord.    At that moment, you were born into God’s family (John 3:1-5) and you received everything you need to live the abundant Christian life that is found in John 15:1-10.   When the believers walk together in faith, they will also grow to become a formidable body that will stand as a threat for Satan and his Cohorts.
(B).   WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WALK AND GROW IN THE LORD?
(1) It simply means to enter into an intimate relationship with God through faith in His Son (Heb. 10:22).
(2) Again, it means to have an unquenchable desire to please and satisfy God. Jesus said: My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work (John 4:34; 6:38, NIV).
(3) ‘Walking and growing’ in the Lord means to be in close proximity wit God.(hear his voice, listen and share your heart with him). A.W. Tozer states that ‘‘the goal of every Christian should be howto live in a state of unbroken worship with God.’’ This is only possible when we walk with God. Walking and growing in the Lord means to deepen our relationship with God.
(C).   Before a Church can walk and grow in the Lord, She must be ready to be:
(1)A Berean Christian Church (Acts 17:11, James 1:18-27, 1Peter 2:2). The word of God is not only divinely inspired; it has the basis of our belief as Christians. It gives us God’s perspective on how we should live and how we can be fruitful witnesses for our Lord Jesus. Ps. 119:11 says: Your word I have kept inmymind that I may not sin against you.’’
CHARACTERISTICS OF BEREAN CHRISTIAN CHURCH
Ø They meticulously and deeply studied the Bible
Ø They were students of the Bible
Ø They loved the word of God.
(2).She must be ready to be a Romans 12 Christian Church(Rom. 12:1-21): A Romans 12 Christian Church is a church that trusts God. N.B: The more you know God, the deeper He takes you into His heart.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A ROMANS 12 CHRISTIAN CHURCH
1.   They present their bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God (Vs.1).WHY DO WE NEED TO PRESENT OUR BODIES HOLY AND ACCEPTABLE UNTO GOD?
(A)Our nature does not have ability to know God. Therefore, we are sinful in nature.Rom.8:7.
(B)Our nature was anti God before we were buried with Him by baptism into death: that like Christ was raised from the death by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life(Rom.6:4).
2.   They are not conformed to this world (1Jh 2:15-16). Vs. 2.A sinner will always sin because sin is in his nature.
3.   They are transformed by the renewing of their minds to show to the unbelieving world that Christ was in them. (Vs 2)
4.   They are not proud and arrogant- Vs. 3
5.   They are united as a body of Christ. Vs. 4-5
6.   They do the work of the ministry according to the proportion of their faith. Vs. 6-7
7.   They advise one another. Vs. 8
8.   They lead with diligence and showed mercy with Cheerfulness Vs. 8
9.   They love without deceit and reservation. Vs. 9-10
10.They were not lazy. They did every Spiritual assignment given to them with seriousness and eagerness. Vs. 11
11. They rejoice in hope. They were patient and instant in prayers.Vs.12.
12. They care for one another- Vs. 13
13. They love their enemies and rejoice with those who rejoice. Verses 14-15
14. They have one mind and are not wise in their own sight.
15. They live peacefully with others
16. They give room for vengeance.

3. She must Fellowship with Christ-1 Cor. 12:12-27; Heb. 10:23-25
4. She must be prayerful- Mat. 26:31-75; 1 Thess. 5:17, John 14:13-14.
5. She must OBEY HIS command for witnessing.  Acts 26:12-29; Rom.1:14-16; Rom.6:14-23
Finally, the key to rapid growth in a Christian life is Obedience to the will of God. Half or partial obedience is equal to disobedience. The outreach of the Church is worldwide. Therefore, we must go and tell others about the love of Jesus.  You can start in the Church here……

THE WAY OF WISDOM
Job 28:12-13,15, 20, 23, 28;
Prov. 3:13-17; James 1:5

Where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?
Man knoweth not the price thereof neither is it found in the land of theliving.
It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?
God understndeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

The Reality of Hell

The Rich Man Went to Hell and Was Punished
We read of the rich man who went to hell in Luke 16:19-31. He died in his sins. Let’s read this factual account in the Scriptures . . .
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And IN HELL he lift up his eyes, being in TORMENTS, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and COOL MY TONGUE; for I AM TORMENTED IN THIS FLAME. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art TORMENTED. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:  For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of TORMENT. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, IF THEY HEAR NOT MOSES AND THE PROPHETS, NEITHER WILL THEY BE PERSUADED, THOUGH ONE ROSE FROM THE DEAD.
Notice, Jesus did NOT say this was a parable; therefore, WE MUST ACCEPT IT AS LITERAL! Also notice that in all of Jesus’ parables, He always referred to a “certain man” or a “far off country.” Jesus never used specific names in His parables. Jesus used specific names in this account: Lazarus and Abraham. This is a factual account of something that happened. The word TORMENT(S) is found mentioned 3 times in verses 23, 25 and 28. Just as today, A MAN IS ONLY AS GOOD AS HIS WORD. We must believe then that JESUS SAID WHAT HE MEANT and MEANT WHAT HE SAID! The rich man was not a criminal, he was not a drug dealer, he was not a murderer, etc. What was it that kept the rich man from getting saved? Ready for this? He thought he had heaven on earth so he didn’t take the Word of God seriously.
The rich man lived for himself.  He could have cared less about the poor—people such as Lazarus. Lazarus was very poor and diseased. The rich man was very rich and stingy. Lazarus ate the crumbs out of the garbage pail of the rich man. The rich man was selfish and self-centered but that’s not what sent him to hell. He went to hell because he never put his FAITH in Christ as Savior. He was guilty of the worst sin of all—UNBELIEF. He never stopped long enough to consider his ways and turn to God for the forgiveness of his sins. He probably thought the preacher was a quack and the Word of God was just another religious book. Unfortunately, hell became his new home because of his wealthy pride that blinded him in unbelief.

Most Rich People Will Be Eternally Damned in the Lake of Fire
Oh how many rich people are sadly in hell right now. “Go to now, YE RICH MEN, weep and howl for your MISERIES that shall come upon you” (James 5:1). “For it is EASIER FOR A CAMEL TO GO THROUGH A NEEDLE’S EYE, than for a RICH MAN to enter into the kingdom of God” (Luke 18:25). “For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the RICH MAN FADE AWAY IN HIS WAYS” (James 1:11). I’d like to add here, most people in the United States are rich and don’t realize it. These verses may indeed be speaking about you. The United States is a very rich nation. Even homeless people living on the streets have something here that immigrants are willing to risk their lives to have—opportunity.
People are dying in the oceans and in box cars trying to escape the poverty stricken and communist lands they reluctantly call home. Surely we are a blessed people in the United States. However; along with this prosperity has arisen a stiff-necked people, full of pride. The rich man is Luke sixteen which we just read about had no color TV set—he had no refrigerator, no telephone, no electricity, no car, no plumbing, no washer or dryer, no modern medicine, no camera, no CD player, no radio, etc. By today’s standards he would be considered poor. Yet, he was called a “rich man” by God. I contend that we're all very  rich indeed and in danger of the same kind of fate that the rich man met—Eternal damnation in hell. Do you take the Word of God SERIOUSLY? Or do you take God’s Word lightly?

Hell is a Place of Brutal Torment — Jesus Said that Hell Has Fire!
Let’s look at some more verses concerning hell. Jesus foretells of WEEPING and GNASHING OF TEETH, “...there shall be WEEPING and GNASHING OF TEETH” (Matthew 8:12).  “Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH” (Matthew 22:13). “And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH” (Matthew 24:51). “And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH” (Matthew 25:30). “There shall be WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out” (Luke 13:28).
“And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the FIRE THAT NEVER SHALL BE QUENCHED: Where their worm dieth not, and the FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the FIRE THAT NEVER SHALL BE QUENCHED: Where their worm dieth not, and the FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into HELL FIRE: Where their worm dieth not, and the FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED” (Mark 9:43-48). Hell has fire!

The Wicked and the Righteous Cannot Go to the Same Grave
Do you really think Jesus would have spoken all these Words if hell didn’t have fire?  Let’s hear Jesus’ Words in John 14:2, “In my Father's house are many mansions: IF IT WERE NOT SO, I WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU. Jesus said what He meant and meant what He said.  For anyone to deny that hell has fire is unbelief. When a man tells me he doesn’t believe that hell has fire, I know that he doesn’t believe the Bible. The Bible teaches that Hell is fire and eternal damnation. I’ve heard people contend that the word “hell” only means grave. In some places in the Bible this is true, but in most others it means hell fire and punishment.
Psalm 9:17 is a good example of where “hell” CANNOT mean simply “grave.” ... “THE WICKED SHALL BE TURNED INTO HELL, and all the nations that forget God.” Do not the righteous also go to the grave? If the word “hell” only means “grave,” then both the wicked and the righteous go to the same place. Only a fool would say such a thing. In most cases in the Bible, the word “hell” implies damnation and fire. The wicked go to hell-fire and punishment, the righteous go to Heaven for life everlasting. Don’t be foolish my friend in denying that hell is real. I can assure you that this world we live in is NOT hell. I believe the worst thing about hell won’t be the suffering and torment, it will be the constant realization that you could have been up in heaven serving a loving God for all eternity.
Oh how bitter the bitterness which will be inflicted upon those suffering in Hell, an eternity to sulk in regrets and resentments. Perhaps this is the “worm that dieth not” which we read about several times in the Scriptures—the conscience. No one knows for sure what the “worms” are but whatever they are, I sure wouldn’t want to find out. The only safe place to be is in the everlasting arm of Jesus... “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are THE EVERLASTING ARMS” (Deuteronomy 33:27). Are you safe and secure in the Everlasting Arms? Only in Jesus Christ can any person find true salvation and security.
