JUST A LITTLE SIN

GATEWAY BAPTIST CHURCH, ADO-EKITI
BIBLE STUDY SERIES – 25-06-2014
TOPIC: JUST A LITTLE SIN
TEXT: LUKE 13:24
‘’Strive to enter in at the strait gates: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.’’
Preamble: Since rapture will not happen twice but once, heavenly conscious Christians will do more to focus and strive to be counted worthy. Why will Christians miss the rapture even after they are born again and serving God? Here are the reasons why some Christians will miss heaven:
1.       Just a little sin (Gal. 5:9) ‘’A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.’’ Many Christians will miss rapture and entrance to heaven not because they are not born-again and serving God, not because they are committing serious sins, but just because of a little, besetting sin, just little but too heavy to hold people down from making rapture. Little sins can be:
a.       Wearing tight clothes, tops that show a woman’s cleavage or transparent clothes. When the Holy Spirit calls your attention to the little sin, you excuse yourself that it doesn’t matter, even everybody is doing it or it is your own weakness since everybody has weakness. It may be little anger, envy, jealousy, even in the work of God. Little, little lies, using people’s or your office’s materials for your personal purpose wiyhout taking permission.
You think it doesn’t matter? It does. Let’s repent now because common sins will commonly hinder common Christians.
2.       Compromise/ Little worldliness (1John 2:16): Little worldliness will hinder so many Christians from making the rapture. This little worldliness does not matter to many Christians today. The worldly music which you call normal, worldly movies, magazines (fashion, entertainment or pornography). TV programmes inspired by satan such as: African Magic.
Worldly dress like wearing tops, blouses that show the trace of your breast as a woman or that reveals your back and tight. Short and transparent dress must not be worn by the Christian women.
3.       Unpaid and inessential debt: When you have the power to but postponing or does not want to pay, this can hinder Christians from being raptured or entering heaven.
4.       Undone Restitution – Acts 24:16
After you are genuinely saved, there may be some wrongs of the past that need to be corrected in your present new life in Jesus.  Restitution includes: restoring things wrongly acquired if you still have them in your custody. Revealing lies and deceptions and reconciling with people we offended or that offended us, and also forgiving with all our heart no matter how terrible the offence might be. Forgiveness from the heart is part of restitution and many Christians, ministers of God will miss rapture and heaven just because of  unforgiveness and bitterness- Matthew 6:14-15.
5.       Over-Confidence- 1corin. 10:12.
Over confidence will hinder many believers from entering into the kingdom of God. You see the shortcoming of others without seeing yours.
6.       Unconfessed Sin – 1Timothy 5:24
1.       Unconfessed sin remains a secret sin. You did something wrong and you realize it and confessed to God but concealed it from people and refused to confess to necessary partners or saints even after the Holy Spirit has ministered to you to expose it, you are listening to the wrong preachers and your wrong motive and defending yourself that you have confessed to God, so that settles iy. This will block many ears from hearing the sound of the trumpet of rapture. Please, you must confess to one another (James 5:16). As the case may be, why will you miss rapture Over-Confidence- 1corin. 10:12.

13.   Little Compromise – 1Cor. 5:6. Little compromise at work place, in your business, to get contract, job or promotion; little compromise to get your papers and documents. Little compromise in examination hall, in marital relationship or in your tithes and offerings. If you are not careful, the compromise of the society, church and some idolized pastors will infect and affect you.
14.   Lack of Love (1John 4:8). Do you think it is possible to make heaven without love? And does your life show the love of Christ? Read 1corinthians 13:1-8. Most churches and Christians lack love. Purity without love is hypocrisy, love without purity is lust, but real purity means PURE LOVE. Christian life without love is hypocrisy.
just because of this little shortcoming?

CONCLUSION: We should all search our lives with the light of God’s word and correct everything the Holy Spirit is calling our attention to. 1 Peter 4:7 says, ‘’But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers’’

COMMITMENT IN THE CHURCH OF GOD

BIBLE STUDY
TOPIC: COMMITMENT IN THE CHURCH OF GOD
TEXT: ICORINTHIANS 6:19, 31
Preambles: When we talk about commitment, we often think about how it applies to our personal relationship with our spouses. Commitment comes in many forms, and the Bible talks in depth about these forms. The scripture reminds us that we need to commit to the spiritual path we have chosen and not be swayed by those who try to deter us from that path. There are numerous references in the Bible addressing the Christian’s commitment in various aspects of life. Christians have to be committed to their families, neighbours, employers, the church, their health, and in all things that they do and say (Eph. 6:5; Heb. 10:25; 1cor. 6:19, 31).
We must understand that the chief commitment of our lives is to God Himself. Jesus said: ‘‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment’’ (Mathew 22:37-38). Jesus is telling us here that every fiber of our being, every facet of our lives must be committed to loving and serving God. Furthermore, Jesus tells us that our commitment to Him must supersedes our commitment to our families and jobs (Luke 14:26-27).
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE COMMITTED TO God
1.       It means that Jesus is our sole authority, our guiding light, and our unerring compass.
2.       Being committed to Christ means being fruitful
3.       It means being a servant (Mk.10:45; Mat.20:25-26; Phil.2:3-4).
4.       Doing the work of God with joy even when it is not convenient.
5.       Putting in your best for the Lord
6.       Working for God without becoming weary.

BIBLICAL FACTS ABOUT COMMITMENT
1.       1 Kings 8:61 says: ‘‘Your hearts must be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by His decrees and obey His command.’’ Every Christian must be committed to avoid growing weary.
2.       Galatians 6:9. ‘‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’’
3.       II Chronicles 15:7 says:  ‘‘Be strong and do not give up for your work will be rewarded.
4.       2Timothy 2:3 says: ‘’ Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.’’
5.       Hebrews 10:36: ‘’You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
6.       1Timothy 4:16 says, ‘’ Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.’’
7.       Generally speaking, to be committed to Christ means to be up and doing in our services to God. It also means that we must be ready to act like servants or ‘sheep’.
Finally, let everyone of us examine our lives whether we are genuinely committed to the God and His Church.

LESSONS FROM THE WOMEN OF FAITH

                     GATEWAY BAPTIST CHURCH, ADO-EKITI
BIBLE STUDY SERIES
TOPIC: LESSONS FROM THE WOMEN OF FAITH
TEXT: PROVERB 30:10-31
INTRODUCTION: The contributions of the women of faith in the Bible to the welfare of others are enormous. Some women in the Bible played some outstanding roles in building the kingdom of God and their homes. These women were more available to serve God, His ministers and others. As we study the word of God together, we shall look in depth, some women of God who lived exemplary lives.
1.       Eunice and Grandmother Lois (IITim.3:15). These two women of God taught their son and grandson- Timothy the scriptures from childhood. They taught him how to do the will of God.
2.       Jochebed (Ex.2). Jochebed received her son Moses back from the river, taught him about God to the extent that the Egyptian training given to him at the palace could not remove from him godliness that had been instilled in him by his mother. Moses grew to esteem God more than the pleasures, the wealth and the politics of Egypt (Heb.11:24-26).
3.       Hannah (1sam. 1): Hannah nursed her son Samuel, made clothes for him and presented him to the Lord in the Temple as she had vowed. Hannah also prayed for Samuel’s fruitful service.
4.       Sarah- She respected her husband’s authority. She even called him ‘lord’
5.       King Lemuel’s mother (Prov. 31): This woman warned her son not to embrace                                                    wayward woman (31:3). She also advised him to be just and fair in all his doings (31:8-9)
6.       Noble wife- (prov. 31:10ff). She was a virtuous, skilful and productive keeper of home. She was her husband’s trusted companion.
7.       Priscilla (Acts 18:2-3). Priscilla, the wife of Aquila co-laboured with Paul in tent making, in the gospel and discipling. It is evident in the scriptures that She and her husband also used their home for the kingdom of God (Acts 18:24-26; 1cor. 16:19; Rom. 16:3-4). In so doing they both risked their lives to serve Christ (Rom. 16:3-4).
8.       Martha (Lk. 10:38; Jn.12:2): Martha showed hospitality to the Lord and others in her home.
9.       Peter’s mother-in-law (Mk 1:31): This woman was hospitable to the Lord and His disciples.
10.   Joanna and Susanna provided for the Lord out of their substances, probably meals and clothing (Lk.8:3).
11.   Dorcas (Acts 9:36, 39): She was full of good works and charitable deeds; she made garments for widows.
12.   Phoebe (Rom. 16:1-2). Phoebe was a servant in the church, a helper of many including Paul.
13.   Mary (Jn. 12:1-7). Mary worshipped the Lord by anointing His feet with precious ointment.
14.   Older women (Titus 2:4): Older women taught younger women how to better love their husbands and children. Women’s contributions to the ministry include: serving at meetings (Heb.10: 25), submission through the head covering (1 cor.11:10), financial support and prayer, etc.
15.   Shunemite woman (2kings 4:8-37). This woman was a discoverer and initiator of good things for the man of God.
CONCLUSION: If you could learn from these women of faith, I am sure your life will be transformed. May Christ increase in us so that

flesh can decrease (John3:30).
